As is always the case with Game of Thrones, there are many different sides that a fan can support and cheer for. Brienne was loyal to Catelyn Stark, so when Catelyn went against her son (King Robb Stark of the North), Brienne supported the decision. Catelyn released Jamie Lannister, who was Robb’s prisoner, and gave Brienne the task of escorting him back to King’s Landing. Jamie promised to exchange Catelyn’s two daughters for his released. Brienne of course had to make sure he held true to his word, but also had to make sure Jamie was kept safe and not returned to the North under captivity. Along the way there were some troubles and the two had to overcome together. This brought them closer together and I can see Brienne and Jamie ending up together in the future.

In the previous season, Nora was running with a brother and sister who were purebred werewolves. The brother was killed by Aiden and the sister was eventually killed by Nora. This season their father, Liam, came looking for Aiden, who he knew killed his son, and his daughter who he didn’t realize was dead. Nora eventually admitted to killing Liam’s daughter which led to him trying to kill Nora and Josh. Thankfully Aiden helped and killed Liam himself.

It was frustrating at times watching Snow this season. Snow’s desire to always be good allowed her to let Regina, who was also trying to be good, into their family’s life. Regina just wanted to be in Henry’s life, and it was going well until Regina’s mother came back from the fairy tale world. Cora and Regina found a way to kill Rumplestiltsken/Mr. Gold, but Snow wanted to save him (especially after finding out he’s Henry’s grandfather). Gold told Snow the only way to save him would be to kill Cora. Snow was able to trick Regina into killing her own mother. Snow wasn’t the same after that. Assisting in taking a life was very difficult for her.

Emma was stuck in fairytale land for the first part of the season. While there she had confrontations with Regina’s mother Cora, Captain Hook and a giant named Anton. When she returned to Storybrooke with Snow, she went on a trip with Mr. Gold to New York in search of his son, only to find out his son was actually Emma’s ex-boyfriend and father of Henry. So now the three different confrontational sides are Emma/Snow/Charming, Regina/Cora and Mr. Gold) are all in some strange way family to Henry. I did enjoy the tension between Emma and Hook throughout the season, and now that they will be stuck on a ship
together in Neverland, maybe they can finally“hook up.” See what I did there. :)

I do find it interesting with Game of Thrones how the path of certain characters take place. While many of the main characters have either been a part of major events or have just been getting killed off suddenly (which happens often), there are supporting characters who have slowly become more interesting and important to the story. This especially can be said for Arya. She began as a little girl who witnessed her father killed and moved into survival mode by escaping the people who killed her father. But since then a series of events, run-ins with interesting characters and her growing desire for revenge has led her to grow darker, shielded and more interesting. I really look forward to her continued development from a broken child who has lost almost everything to what will hopefully be a strong young woman who will one day get her revenge. The only reason she has moved down in the rankings is because I now include Summer shows and three characters from those shows are new additions to this list.

It feels weird that this is the first time I write about Claudia. I’ve been a fan of Warehouse 13 for a number of years now, but it’s mostly been a Summer show and therefore not on these rankings. Claudia is a late teens/early twenties girl who was unofficially adopted by the head of Warehouse 13, Artie. She is brilliant with technology and is a great fit as a tech for the Warehouse (and more recently a field agent with Jinks). She looks up to Artie like a father, so when Artie recently became
possessed with evil it was hard for her to deal with. The season (or midseason) finale ended on a cliffhanger in which Claudia stabbed Artie with a dagger after Artie unleashed a world-ending plague.

The newcomers to this category are all from SyFy summer shows that have been on for at least a few seasons. Haven is the story of a town in Maine of the same name that has a supernatural presence known as the Troubles. Audrey Parker seems to appear every time the Troubles appear in order to try to stop them. She doesn’t have any recollection of the previous times, and each time she has a different personality. She also doesn’t seem to age. We don’t know much about how this has come to be, but the series (now going into its fourth season) has begun to dig into the history of Audrey and her purpose of existence. Season 3 ended with her doing what she seemingly must do to stop the Troubles in every one of her lives (by entering a mysterious cabin). I’m not sure what the future holds in season 4, but there will definitely be an impact on the occurrences of the season finale.

Being Human began this past season in a very different direction.
Aiden had been buried alive, Josh killed his maker and was no longer a werewolf and then helped Sally make a deal with a witch doctor to bring Sally back to life. So Sally was also now a human again, which is why you’ll notice in the picture of her that she’s wearing a different outfit than the one she had been doomed to wear for eternity as a ghost. Of course there were complications with Sally coming back from the dead. She had to be careful not to be seen in public by anyone she knows, which was difficult since she still lives in Boston where she lived in her first
life. There were consequences that the witch doctor didn’t tell Josh and Sally. If someone saw her who she knew when she was first alive, they would die. What was worse is that when they walked through their door, they didn’t go to the other side but to the witch doctor, who would then eat their soul. It also turned out she wasn’t exactly human, but sort of a zombie. She began to decay and found the only way to regenerate was to eat raw flesh. After a turn of events in which Sally was forced to sell her soul to the witch doctor, she decided to kill herself and with the help of her friends fight the witch doctor. So now after a tease with life, Sally is a ghost again.

Myka works as a special agent for Warehouse 13 with her partner Pete Lattimer. She is very book smart (as her parents own a book store) and a very talented agent for the Warehouse. Though she mostly is serious, which makes her opposite of her partner, she can be fun on occasion. They really work well as partners and I believe there are some undertones of attraction between them, though they’ve never really moved in that direction. Myka, like Claudia and the rest of their team, had to deal with Artie at the midseason finale and are left with a potential world-ending plague unleashed by Artie. Of course it wouldn’t be the first time the end looked nigh on Warehouse 13. I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

Daenerys began as a young woman who was sold off by her brother to a tribe of warriors only to become a leader of people (and dragons). Daenerys has faced many challenges, and this past season she continued to grow her strength by freeing an army of slave warriors that were bred for battle. Her ultimate goal is to take back the Iron Throne in King’s Landing, but she is still an ocean away. She now has many supporters, including some strong advisors, an army of excellent warriors and an ally in the mysterious but deadly Daario Naharis. Oh yeah, and three dragons that are continuing to grow and would do anything to protect her. She wll be feared in the future.
