20. Melisandre (Carice van Houten) on Game Of Thrones 2014-2015 Rank: UNRANKED Let's be real, Melisandre has been mostly a negative presence. She birthed an evil shadow demon in the image of Stannis Barratheon to kill his brother Renley. She would later burn Stannis daughter at the stake, which amounted to nothing. She is on this list for one reason and one reason only...she brought Jon Snow back to life...period. |
19. Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) on The Walking Dead 2014-2015 Rank: 11 (-8) Carol has been on a roller coaster of personalities throughout The Walking Dead series. She had most recently been the act now, ask questions later (or don't ask at all) person who would do the dirty work. But she came to some epiphany this past season and decided she didn't want to kill anymore. She left Alexandria to be on her own, though Morgan felt guilty about her new feelings and followed her. Lucky for her he did, since he would save her life after she was almost killed by some Saviors. |
18. Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire) on 12 Monkeys 2014-2015 Rank: UNRANKED In season one, Cole saw Goines as the person who would release the virus into the world that caused the apocalyptic future that Cole comes from. However in his various time hops, he builds a strange relationship with Jennifer to the point that she wants to help. She however struggles with psychological issues that makes it difficult to know what she will do next. |
17. Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) 16. Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) 15. Bo (Anna Silk) on Lost Girl 2014-2015 Rank: 15 (-2), 10 (-6), 9 (-6) Though Lost Girl takes place in a world where Fae (supernatural creature/humans/etc) exist in secret from the general population. Though the majority of characters have special abilities, I would say the bigger focus of the show is the strength of a small group of women. Sure there are important male characters like Trick and Dyson, but it's Kenzi, Tamsin and Bo (and Lauren) who are the heartbeats of the show. Kenzi had left the show previously, but came back for the final showdown between Bo and her evil father Hades. |
14. Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) on Game Of Thrones 2014-2015 Rank: 14 (-) Sansa has long been a victim (and a child) throughout the previous seasons of Game of Thrones. A character that didn't have much significance in the bigger storylines of the show. She however has stepped forward into the spotlight as a more important character who also happens to not be so much of a victim anymore. She has grown into a strong young woman ready to help lead the charge of the North against the Boltons (already victorious), Lannisters and anything lurking beyond the wall. Her relationship with Littlefinger is creepy (well, he's just creepy and she won't let him be with her), but she is using his devotion to her advantage. No one should trust him, and I'm pretty sure Sansa is fully aware of that. She has also finally been reunited with one of her [pseudo] siblings, Jon, and may soon be reunited with Arya and Bran as well. |
13. Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) on Daredevil + Jessica Jones 2014-2015 Rank: 13 (-) There have been a couple characters on my lists that have appeared as the same character on multiple shows (mainly Mike and Saul/Jimmy on Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul), though they two series were released apart and therefore did not occur in the same year. But we will start seeing some same-season crossovers, thanks largely in part to the world of Netflix's Marvel properties, The Defenders. And it all begins here with Claire Temple. Claire is a nurse who first appeared aiding Daredevil with his many injuries. She later finds herself in the midst of more "special" characters as she treats Luke Cage in Jessica Jones. She then returns in season two of Daredevil, facing both the Punisher and the supernatural organization that is The Hand. As the shows continue to roll out (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Punisher, The Defenders, etc), it has to be assumed that she will continue to play a role that sort of interconnects these various stories. |
12. Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) on Daredevil 2014-2015 Rank: NEW CHARACTER Speaking of Daredevil, season two brought the introduction of a few new characters. One of them was Elektra, a former lover of Matt Murdock's (Daredevil) who he later finds out was intructed to get into his life. She returns in trouble with the organization The Hand, which appears to be raising and army of the dead. They see her as their eventual leader and ultimate warrior, but Matt does everything he can to help her stay on the side of good. By the end of the season, Elektra is killed, but assumed to be heading towards resurrection with The Hand. |
11. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) on Game Of Thrones 2014-2015 Rank: 6 (-5) I didn't love where Dany's story was going this past season, though there were two big moments that showed that she is still pretty awesome. The first was when she burned down and eliminated all of the Khals of the Dothraki and walked out unburnt. In the process she claimed a very large Dothraki army. The second was the end when she returns to Mereen with her dragons to destroy the slave owners, then sailing across the sea with the combined forces of her Dothraki, her Unsullied, the Greyjoys, Tyrells and Martells. Oh, and three dragons. She is heading towards Westeros and ready for war. |
10. Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) on Jessica Jones 2014-2015 Rank: NEW SHOW Jessica Jones works as a private investigator to earn a living. She is not like most PIs however, as she basically has super strength. In this first season of Jessica Jones, one of the members of the eventual Defenders, Jessica must face her greatest villain in Kilgrave. Kilgrave can basically control anyone to do whatever he wants. His weakness is Jessica, as he is in love with her and just wants her to love him without controlling her. Jessica crosses paths with Luke Cage, and strong man with unbreakable skin. They will eventually team up, but for now, they both seem to be lost souls looking for something. |
9. Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) on 12 Monkeys 2014-2015 Rank: 7 (-2) In the first season of 12 Monkeys, Cassandra Railly was an important peice of the puzzle to prevent a deadly virus from wiping out a majority of Earth's population. James Cole travels back in time to find her, then work with her to find the cause of the virus. But at the end, Cassie was sent to the future in place of Cole to save her. When Cole eventually finds his way back to the future (his present) this season, he finds a changed Cassie who has been living in the future. She is now a soldier for the cause and basically doing what he had been to travel back in time and prevent the virus. There was a connection between them in season one, but this season they seem to have very different views on the way things should be. |
8. Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) on Daredevil 2014-2015 Rank: 12 (+4) Karen had a very challenging second season of Daredevil. She continued to work as a secretary of sorts with Nelson & Murdock, but she was thrust into the middle of a storyline involving The Punisher. She would solely figure out about who he really was and what caused him to become the killing vigilante he appears to be. By doing all of this journalistic work, she scored a job at the paper that her former friend/mentor Ben Urich worked at before he was killed in season one. With all of that happening, and Matt dealing with The Hand and Elektra, she was separate from Matt much of the season. They clearly have feelings for each other, but Matt keeps his distance because he doesn't want her to get hurt due to everything he is dealing with. At the end of the season however, Matt reveals he secret to her. |
7. Kelly Maxwell (Dana DeLorenzo) on Ash Vs Evil Dead 2014-2015 Rank: NEW SHOW Ash Vs Evil Dead pretty much starts right up with Ash being thrust back into the world of the Evil Dead. He was peacefully living his life for twenty years and working at Value Stop. But when it is time to battle evil again, he acquires two of his coworkers in Pablo and Kelly. Kelly turns out to be a great ally once she truly gives into the cause. Her mother had died from a car accident some months prior but randomly came back from the dead. Ash knew she was really a demon and helped Kelly realize it. Now she is loyal to Ash as they fight the forces of evil together (with Pablo too). |
6. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) on Once Upon A Time 2014-2015 Rank: 2 (-4) The beginning on this past season was advertised as being about Emma becoming the new Dark One. She sacrified herself to dark magic to save her family and Regina and the question was what would happen to her and how would it effect the people of Storybrook. What we end up finding however is that she does a pretty good job of fighting it, and eventually is able to break out. Though there was some struggle with losing memories and travelling to Camelot to get there. She unfortunately lost Hook/Killian in the process, but that led to her and a small group travelling to the Underworld to save him. Which she manages to do before the end of the season. |
5. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) on Game Of Thrones 2014-2015 Rank: 8 (+3) Unlike her older sister Sansa who was mostly in the background as a victim, Arya has spent much of the series surviving in different ways. She escaped capture after her father was killed in King's Landing, pretended to be a boy on the way to the Night's Watch, worked for Tywin Lannister for a while (though he didn't know who she was), partnered with The Hound and found her way to Braavos to pledge her allegiance to the many-faced God at the House of Black and White. She started this season blind after her sight was taken away from her. But she regained her sight, then killed her adversary within the House of Black and White. At the end of the season, she has returned to Westeros. Her first stop, killing another name on her list...Walder Frey. |
4. Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) on Penny Dreadful 2014-2015 Rank: Previously Didn't Watch I wish I had started watching Penny Dreadful when it first aired, but sadly did not. So instead I watched pretty much all three seasons around the same time. So this ranking sort of reflects three seasons of the show, though I suspect the characters would have been mainstays at the top of these lists. Vanessa Ives spent the first season helping her partner/father-figure Sir Malcolm Murray in locating her childhood friend (who is also Sir Malcolm's daughter). She had been captured by vampires and turned into one herself. With this shared bond, they brought together a few other people and became sort of a group fighting against supernature forces of evil. Season two found Vanessa the target of a witch who believed her to be a prophesized all-powerful queen. This carried over into the third and final season as Dracula worked her all season and turned her to his dark side by the end. There is so much that happened in between, and Vanessa was always a central figure that seemed to affect everyone around her. |
2. Regina Mills/Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) on Once Upon A Time 2014-2015 Rank: 1 (-1) Regina has really embraced the Hero role, though she feels forever weighed down by the actions of her past. To take a step in the right direction, she discovered a way to separate personalities from a body. She pulled the dark side of her out and vanquished it. Unfortunately for her (and everyone else in Storybrooke), the Evil Queen did not disappear and will become a new foe for the upcoming season. |
1. Brienne Of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) on Game Of Thrones 2014-2015 Rank: 3 (+2) I contine to feel so bad for Brienne. She keeps coming up short in protecting the people she vows to protect. She was able to kill Stannis at the end of the previous season, who took part in killing Renley while she was standing there failing to protect him. She now finds herself in the employ of Sansa, maintaining loyalty to the Starks. She did cross paths with Jamie, who she will probably forever love but not be able to be with. Though Jamie loves his sister, you can see that there are feelings for Brienne. As Jamie's army captured the Blackfish, he watched her paddle away to safety without saying anything that would have led to her capture. You have to think in the end they will be forced to fight and one will kill the other. Which will be tragic either way. Oh, and there's a new will they/won't they with Brienne and Tormund. She doesn't appear to have any interest, but Tormund sure knows how to give her some googly eyes. |
21. Tulip O'Hare (Ruth Negga) on Preacher
22. Patricia Walker (Rachel Taylor) on Jessica Jones
23. Iris (Kathy Bates) on American Horror Story: Hotel
24. Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless) on Ash Vs Evil Dead
25. Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) on Jessica Jones
