Nora’s final moments of the first season of Being Human were important ones. She saw Josh change into a wolf for the first time, she felt Josh’s presumably werewolf baby possibly turning inside of her and she had scratches on her arm from Josh which would be enough to turn her into a werewolf. This season Nora didn’t tell Josh at first, but she ended up saving his life when they turned as a vampire was about to kill Josh. As Nora became more accustomed to the wolf she began to crave it more, unlike Josh who wants to find a cure. She befriended a pair of sibling pure-breads and even killed her ex-boyfriend. Nora went away for a while but returned near the end of the season still wanting to work things out with Josh. Can Josh forgive her for the things she’s done? She will no doubt be a factor in the upcoming third season.

Kate would definitely be higher on this list, but she was MIA for most of the season. After the Hollow Earth folks were controlled and mostly sent back to their homes, Kate went with them to act as sort of a diplomat for the surface while helping them rebuild. Aside from the first and last few episodes of the season there was not much of her to enjoy. Kate is still a great tough character, though she has shown a bit more vulnerability this past season.

Though the cursed version of this character (Mary Margaret Blanchard) isn’t the most compelling, the fairy tale version (Snow White pre-curse) if a fun and exciting character. As a child she unknowingly cost the life of Regina’s love and set her off on a path of evil. Later Regina had Snow White’s father killed and sent her off with the Huntsman to be killed. After earning his sympathy, Snow White lived in the forest in hiding and eventually crossed paths with Prince Charming who she later married. Snow White is tough, head strong and a bit of a firecracker, which makes for an exciting female character. Unfortunately her cursed alter-ego Mary Margaret brings her rating down a bit.
6. Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) on Eureka
2010-2011 Rank: Previously Summer Show
Eureka’s Allison and Jo are similar in that they are sort of the alpha-females of the town (and basically more alpha than the males). Allison is the former head of Global Dynamics (an altering timeline changed that) and Jo is the head of GD security. There has been tension between the two in the final season (which is currently airing) regarding Jack whom Allison is engaged to and Jo has unresolved feelings for. It sounds sort of soapy, but it's really just a bit of light drama for a quirky sci-fi show that deserves some tension now and again.

Arya is the youngest daughter of the Eddard and Catelyn Stark. After being present at her father’s execution near the end of season one, Arya escapes King’s Landing disguised as a boy with a caravan heading to the Night’s Watch. She goes through a lot in season two. Arya befriends the bastard son of the late King Robert, earns the trust of Tywin Lannister as his cup-bearer (he doesn’t know who she actually is) and rescues a man who pays her back by offering to kill any three people she so names. At the close of season two, Arya is escaped and headed north to find her family. Don’t forget that she’s only a young girl, probably between the ages of 10 and 12. That’s a lot for a girl of her age to handle, but she does it better than most adults.

The second season of Being Human brought some troubling and complicated times for the show’s main characters. Sally, the ghost of the group, learned a lot in her quest to understand her afterlife existence. Sally learned how to possess the living and experience all the sensations she no longer feels as a ghost. She later learns about how ghosts can “shred” other ghosts thus removing them from our world. Sally tries to sleep and experiences a dark force in her dreams. This dark force turns out to be within her and takes the form of Scott, a reaper who is trying to turn Sally into a reaper. She is eventually able to escape the grasp of Scott but fails to get rid of him. Finally she decides to shred herself and sent to Limbo where she is now stuck.

At the end of the first season, Daenerys saw her husband die and gave birth to three dragons (a species long extinct). Daenerys believes she is the rightful heir to the iron throne of the seven kingdoms (like seemingly everyone else on the show). Her march towards the sea that could eventually get her to King’s Landing brought her to the port of Qarth. After trying to find help in the form of a ship, her dragons are stolen by a warlock. Just like the end of season one, the season two finale brought a defining moment for Daenerys and her dragons. After briefly being imprisoned with her dragons, they manage to escape with the dragons’ fire and destroy the ones who did them wrong along the way. Daenerys is becoming stronger as the show progresses, and once her dragons are at full strength it’s hard to believe they won’t be unstoppable.

The beginning of the season found Helen Magnus chasing Adam Worth back in time to turn-of-the-twentieth-century London in order to stop him from altering history. After she succeeds, Magnus must go into hiding for the next century in order to get back to her present without altering anything. Isolation for a century and no insanity? That’s incredible. She is of course able to do this because she ages at an incredibly decelerated rate. The Sanctuary deals with much adversity through season four, including separating from the government and eventually going into hiding. Magnus ends up destroying the Sanctuary and has created a secret underground base where operations will continue. Unfortunately it won’t continue on screen, as Sanctuary was cancelled after four great seasons.
