As always, this is all my personal opinion. Please feel free to form your own. Enjoy the list!
Like seemingly all old TV shows and movies, this 1949-1950 Western classic is being remade into a feature film. Johnny Depp plays the Native American sidekick Tonto to Armie Hammer’s (Mirror Mirror) Lone Ranger. This is not only Depp’s first time starring in a remake of an old TV show (Dark Shadows), but it is also not his first Western (Dead Man) and not his first time working with director Gore Verbinski (Pirates Trilogy, Rango).
I know about as much about Gravity now as I did a year ago when it placed #19 on my Most Anticipated Films of 2012 list. The film is still about astronauts who are stranded in space and are trying to return home. The people involved haven’t changed either. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star and Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien) is still the director.
This film was initially on my Most Anticipated Films of 2012 list, but just before I posted the list it was announced that H&G would be pushed to 2013. The studio wanted to take advantage of a potential breakout 2012 for star Jeremy Renner who at the time had just appeared in the new Mission Impossible and would be featured in both The Avengers and the Bourne Legacy later in the year. Anyway, Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters is just what it sounds like and should be nothing more than a fun, action-filled movie that shouldn’t be viewed too seriously.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that this is probably going to be a silly and borderline stupid movie. My personal interest in the cast is what pulls me in the most. The film stars Steve Carrell as a magician who leaves his longtime partner (Steve Buscemi) in order to challenge a new street-magician (Jim Carrey). The film co-stars Alan Arkin, Olivia Wilde and James Gandolfini.
In 2004 there was a massive earthquake in the Indian Ocean that caused a tsunami to devastate much of Southeast Asia. The Impossible is based on a family that was vacationing in Thailand when the tsunami hit. The family was separated and must overcome great challenges to reunite with each other. The Impossible stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor and looks to be a very emotional drama.
