We had fun exploring Helsinki today, however with the lack of sleep from our red eye we were really struggling to get through the day. We started off by taking a train to the Helsinki city center station Helsingin paarautatieasema. The current station was built in the early 1900s and features and Art Deco style.
Vanha Kauppahalli is a food hall, and if you’ve ever been to Quincy Market, Chelsea Market or Ponce City Market (to name a few) then you have an idea what I’m talking about. We looked through all the food stores before settling on a place called Soup Kitchen, which as you may have guessed, serves soup. This was a goal as I wanted to try Finnish salmon soup. It was delicious.
We explores the city a bit, walking through parks and shopping areas. We then decided we would ride a tram to visit Regatta Cafe, a well known waterfront cafe that serves hot drinks, pastries, and sausages you can cook yourself over an open fire. After enjoying a cinnamon bun and tea, we made our way back into the city and on a train back to the airport. And here we are dead tired and ready to get into Tallinn so we can really start our vacation.
