Most Anticipated Films of 2014: #25-21

2/26/2014

It's the beginning of 2014 (sort of), so it's time to post my Most Anticipated Films of 2014!  As usual, I will be posting short summaries of my top 25, 5 at a time, as well as some honorable mentions.  Enjoy!

25. Godzilla

I’m sure not many people know who director Gareth Edwards is, but he directed an interesting little indie film a few years ago called Monsters.  In Monsters, Edwards dealt with the concept of giant alien beings invading Earth.  He now goes in a slightly different direction with the remake/reimagination/adaptation (whatever you want to call it) of Godzilla.  Just hearing there’s going to be another Godzilla film doesn’t necessarily jump out at me, but I do enjoy leads Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen.

24. The Lego Movie

At this point The Lego Movie has already been released, but I haven’t seen it yet.  The movie already sounded like a lot of fun just by the description, but seeing the trailer makes it look that much better. The great thing about the Lego world is that they have their hands in many franchises like DC, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings (to name a few), so they have a wide variety of characters to choose from.  The voice talents are equally impressive, including Chris Pratt in one of his two leading roles this year (Guardians of the Galaxy) as well as Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Jonah Hill, Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Alison Brie and Charlie Day.  There were also a couple of brilliant casting decisions (in my opinion) with Will Arnett voicing Batman and Anthony Davis reprising his longtime role as the voice of C-3PO!

23. Dumb and Dumber To

It seems like it is always impossible to get away from sequels.  If a movie is successful and makes money, why not make another? I’ve got eleven sequels and franchise reboots in my top 25!  I am really torn on this one.  Dumb & Dumber is one of those classic comedies that I hold in high regard from when I was younger.  Maybe a sequel within a couple years of the original would have been more exciting.  However, the idea of Harry and Lloyd going on another adventure of mishaps and stupidity could be fun one more time, even if it is a couple decades too late. Whoa!  I cannot believe I was eleven when Dumb & Dumber was first released.

22. 7500

This is now the third year in a row that 7500 has been on my “Most Anticipated” lists.  As far as I can tell the filming is complete. I’m not really sure why it keeps getting delayed.  Even with the frustration of the delays for this very little-known movie, as still am interested in the concept.  It is basically supernatural forces occurring on a trans-pacific flight.   This is the type of movie that could be completely stupid or quite interesting.  I’ve seen all types of movies taking place on airplanes, but this should be a bit different. It is also not the only airplane film this year (Non-Stop).  Surely this film must be released eventually…and don’t call me Shirley!

21. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Though there have been multiple TMNT reboots in film and television over the last several years, they have all been animated.  The new film will be a live-action reboot directed by Michael Bay.  There doesn’t appear to be any information on the plot yet, but the cast is set.  This includes the primary roles of April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and Shredder (William Fichtner).  The turtles themselves are relative unknowns.  I know Alan Ritchson (Raphael) from Blue Mountain State and Noel Fisher (Michelangelo) from Shameless, but those are fairly low profile shows too.
